History
Central Light and Rec was formed on July 15th 1973 after the closing of Central School District 147. The earliest formation of this school was in the early 1920’s with the first graduating class in 1923. It continued as a high school until 1967 and closed completely a few years later. Founders of the original Non-Profit were Ray Egger, Orval Heusinkvelt, Eugene Keller, Leon Wittstruck and Donald Mitchell. It is a perpetual Nonprofit 501c3 Corporation. The purpose or purposes are to erect, maintain and operate athletic field lighting system or systems at Central School and at other locations within Lancaster and Saline County. Basically it was to cover any type of facilities in the Sprague-Martell community area.
It was later amended to provide charitable activities associated with providing community based programming and to promote community cohesion in the Sprague- Martell area. It is to provide community center facilities, including athletic buildings and fields as well as meeting rooms to the general public in the Sprague Martell area. Its main focus is on maintaining a place where youth can play sports and support the community activities. The directors consist of 5 board members and a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
This non-profit is funded by membership, room rental fees, gym use, ball field fees, concession sales and donations. There are also special events held as fundraisers to maintain the building and grounds.
